Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure performed from one of the accredited surgery centers that Saland Vision is affiliated with in the local Dallas area. Our eye doctors specialize in a “No-Shot, No-Stitch, No-Patch” surgical method that replaces the cloudy natural lens of the eye with a clear lens implant in a safe, painless surgery that uses no injections or stitches. The operation itself requires the surgeon to make a tiny incision on the eye through which the surgeon inserts an instrument about the size of a pen tip. This instrument breaks up the cloudy natural lens of the eye into small pieces that are then removed. Once removed, the surgeon inserts a replacement lens through the same incision and maneuvers it into position. For the artificial lens, patients can select a standard lens implant or select a premium intraocular lens implant, such as the ReSTOR lens option, which will achieve clearer near or distance vision (or both) to eliminate their dependence on corrective lenses after surgery.
Cataract surgery is an amazingly quick outpatient procedure that can erase years of poor vision. The entire surgical process takes 10-15 minutes to perform, but please plan to spend 2 hours with us the day of your procedure.
When you decide to move forward with the procedure, it’s normal to feel a little nervous. Our staff at Saland Vision understands this and will do everything we can to make you as comfortable and relaxed as possible. We can even prescribe relaxation medication if you need it. The main goal is that you feel 100% confident in our surgical abilities.
We will ask that you arrive 1 hour before your surgery time to complete any necessary paperwork, give yourself time to relax and allow your doctor to perform one final check on your vision.
The replacement lens you choose will be permanent and will feel natural in your eye.
Recovery from this method of cataract surgery usually takes 24 to 48 hours. During recovery, itching and mild discomfort are normal, and your eye may also be more sensitive to light. Daily activities should be limited for the first few days, but many patients feel comfortable driving and returning to work the day after surgery. Avoid rubbing or otherwise touching your eye. You will continue using the medicated eye drops prescribed by your doctor during this time in order to aid healing and avoid infection.
Cataract surgery is performed on only one eye at a time. During the procedure, which usually takes less than 30 minutes to perform, your doctor uses anesthetic drops to completely numb your eye. A small incision is made in the cornea, from which point an ultrasonic probe is used to break up and remove the natural lens of the eye. This is a minimally invasive and safe process, causing little to no discomfort to the patient. Your doctor then places an IOL implant into the eye. Once the procedure is complete, the corneal incision closes up naturally, with no stitches needed.
After surgery, you will be given a protective shield to wear on your eye for the first 24 hours. Your eye will be sensitive to light and you will have blurry or foggy vision on the day of surgery. However, by the end of that day, or early the next, most patients observe improved or even clear vision.
An intraocular lens (IOL) is an artificial replacement lens that is surgically implanted in the eye during cataract surgery to replace the existing clouded lens. Saland Vision is proud to offer some of today’s most advanced eye care treatments, offering different types of IOL implants to replace the natural lens of your eye during the cataract procedure. Each of these implants are used to correct specific vision problems and reduce your dependence on glasses after surgery.
We realize that these options might be a bit confusing at first. During a cataract evaluation, your doctor will ask questions about your hobbies and lifestyle so the right lens can be recommended for your unique life. Prior to your appointment, we invite you to watch the videos below to learn more about each of these lenses.
An extended vision lens that allows you to see clearly at far and intermediate distances while still providing functional near vision. This non-diffractive IOL option also reduces glare symptoms following the procedure.
This option is clinically shown to deliver an exceptional combination of near, intermediate and distance vision while significantly reducing the need for glasses after surgery. A trifocal lens can give you clear vision without blurry zones, helping you focus without straining.
IOL that treats pre-existing corneal astigmatism at the same time that it corrects cataracts. With a single procedure, you have the potential to enjoy freedom from glasses or contacts for distance vision.
